The founders of Alcohol Monitoring Systems first began work in the cutting-edge field of Transdermal Alcohol Testing in 1985. This elite group of scientists, engineers, programmers, and alcohol testing experts began working closely with eminent researchers in the fields of biology, forensic toxicology, criminal justice, and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation. The result: SCRAM—the Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor.

In 1997, they founded Alcohol Monitoring Systems, with the clear mission of designing, developing, and delivering the world’s most effective alcohol testing program to the community corrections and alcohol treatment industries.

From 1997 to 2002, AMS was an R&D company dedicated exclusively to the development of SCRAM, then officially launched SCRAM to the Corrections Market in May of 2003. AMS delivered the first 100 production units of SCRAM in January 2003. Today, SCRAM Programs are operational in 40 states and more than 700+ courts and agencies, conducting more than 27.6 million alcohol tests each year.
